For HCN, the challenge of health sector investment goes beyond the ability to manage assets to achieve cost savings while providing high quality services. It is to answer the question of how health sector investment can contribute to sustainable economic growth and social cohesion within regions.

  • Contributing learning to inform new Erasmus Mundus funded European Master’s Degree in Sustainable Regional Health Systems (launched September 2008 by Universidad de Deusto, Vilnius University, Corvinus University Budapest and University of Verona)
  • Regional Policy Roundtable (Bilbao 2008) leading to Bilbao Declaration by 14 regions
  • Report for DG SANCO (2009) Health and Structural Funds in 2007–2013 country and regional assessment. With direct, indirect and non health sector investments with potential health gain identified for all EU27 member states
  • Lead partner for EUREGIO III project - Health investments in Structural Funds 2000-2006: learning lessons to inform regions in the 2007-2013 period
  • OSTEBA from Basque Country leading Interreg IVC capitalisation bid in 2010 (MAXINNOV) as SF focused next step from HCN health innovation hubs knowledge theme
  • Approached by National Institute for Health & Welfare (Finland) to be partner in follow-up project to the ELECT project (social inclusion for people with mental health problems) with potential link to HCN inclusive employment knowledge theme
  • Exploring with European Centre for Health Assets & Architecture (ECHAA) a possible Interreg IVC capitalisation bid as SF focused next step from HCN health capital investment knowledge theme
